How to use the Chime plugin on Linux

Chime is a powerful browser plug-in that enables you to view three-dimensional molecular structures, rotate them with your mouse, etc.Unfortunately, it is only available for the Windows and Macintosh operating systems. This document describes how to use this plug-in under Linux (Intel x86 only).

Thus, if you buy lhe Crossover Plug-in and find out that you cannot get Chime to work with it, ar if you experience any data loss in lhe process: do not blame me. Summary: a recently released commercial (but inexpensive) product enables lhe use of Windows plug-ins within native Linux browsers. Chime is not among lhe explicitly supported plug-ins, nor can arbitrary plug-ins be expected to work with this product, according to the manufacturer. While lhe standard installation of Chime indeed seems not to work, it actually turns out to be simple to get it working. This is described in lhe following.

The following instructions were tested on a Linux box running RedHat 7.3 (kernel 2.4.20) and RedHat 8.0 (kernel 2.4.20), with Mozilla Firebird:

Acquire Codeweavers' Crossover Plug-in.
Quit your browser .
In the installation process, downloads Crossover-Install file, open linux shell and put the chmod +x
Install-crossover-plugin-1.2.1-.sh for give executable mode.
Next step install Crossover-Plugin
./Install-crossover-plugin-1.2.1.sh
Next step Agree License click in I Agreed button
Next step Define your path in Install Path : exemple (/usr/local/crossover) and click in Begin Install
After install click in Configure Now
Next step Click in Next, and define where are installed yours Browsers. ( It's default, click Next )
Next step If using proxy put your configuration else click Next
After open display CrossOver Pluggin Setup, go to add/remove and click in Chime 2.6 and Add
Next step click in Advanced button
Next step if you don't have chime 2.6. Downloads and save Chime 2.6 in your computer and click in... button search and select the Chime File (exemple: MDLChime26SP4.exe), and click Install
After this click, open lhe Chime Instalation Display click, next, next, next, put your na me and organization and click next.
Next step selecion Find web browser(s) via the Windows register and next button, selection Nescape Browser and click Next
Next step Click Finish Button
Next step Click OK
Next step Click Finish in Crossover pluggin display
Everything should be working now. Start Mozilla and choose "HelplAbout Plug-ins". Among lhe list of plug-ins, you should see explicit mention of Chemscape Chime 2.6 SP4 (CrossOver-npchime.dll). Click here for a screenshot of lhe plug-in list.
You can test lhe installation by going to http://sms.cbi.cnptia.embrapa.br/SMS/STINGm/index.html Click on the STING it ! button. The configuration should be rotating, and you
can also drag it using your mouse. Even lhe toggle buttons on the right-hand side should work fine. Please note that there may be web sites that refuse to serve you Chime-enabled pages, claiming that you cannot view their pages since you're running Linux...
